2016 Design

In honor of the 50th Anniversary of one of the most beloved, quotable, and unforgettable Peanuts television specials of all time, It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, Peanuts Worldwide and The Kraay Family Farm are preparing a once-in-a-lifetime celebration: the creation of a unique corn maze, custom-designed to feature Peanuts themes.

The maze, which will feature the 50th Anniversary logo and Charlie Brown, will cover 15 acres! It will be open from July 22 to October 22, 2016. In addition to the maze, the Kraay Family Farm will host a special screening of It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown! as a double feature with Finding Dory on Sept 23rd, 2016. The Kraay Family Farm is one of 85 farms in North America selected by Peanuts Worldwide to create a Great Pumpkin maze this year. Collectively, the farms—which are part of The MAiZE network and span North America in two countries and 33 states, from California to New York, Canada to Florida—will reach more than 3 million visitors during the Halloween season.

“The Great Pumpkin and cornfield mazes are two of the world’s greatest fall traditions, eagerly anticipated by fans every single year, and we’re so excited to bring them together for this landmark anniversary,” said Jill Schulz, daughter of Peanuts creator Charles M. Schulz. “As we prepare to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, it’s only fitting that we should find a tribute that’s both joyful and visually compelling, just as my father’s characters have been for more than 65 years.”

“We’re thrilled to work with Peanuts Worldwide and The MAiZE, Inc. as we customize our corn maze to celebrate It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown,” said Rachel Kraay, one of the Owners of the Kraay Family Farm. “Corn mazes are all about providing a fun and interactive experience for our visitors—even the adults feel like kids again! And that’s exactly what Peanuts does: Aren’t we all kids again when we see Snoopy and Charlie Brown? This is the perfect match of holiday traditions.”

“It’s been a huge pleasure for us to collaborate with Peanuts Worldwide and corn farms across North America to design these unique, custom corn mazes,” said founder Brett Herbst, The MAiZE, Inc. “We’re all fans of Peanuts and the Great Pumpkin, and we’re delighted to honor the 50th Anniversary by having the Great Pumpkin, this one time only, rise out of a corn maze!”

Featuring a new maze design every year, the world famous 15 acre corn maze will keep maze-goers mystified while they make mind-boggling twists and turns in each of the maze’s three phases. To do the entire maze takes approximately 1.5 hours but you can choose to come out of each phase and take a break if you need! The maze is open day and night and is never haunted. The maze is not lit up so when it gets dark, be sure you take your flashlight!

Described as, “A gold and green amusement park ride that stands still” by People magazine, corn mazes are one of the world’s leading tourist attractions and Alberta’s own Lacombe Corn Maze is one of the premier mazes in North America!

Flashlight Maze

Come out in the evenings in the Fall for our FLASHLIGHT MAZE! Bring your own flashlights, buy a glowstick or try the maze under a Full Moon for a natural way to walk lit paths at night! The maze is not lit up with yard lights so when the nights get darker the maze gets darker (earlier) too – try it in the light and the dark for two completely different experiences. cornmaze06

Games in the Maze

Passport to fun! In the maze entrance you’ll find your choice of passports (trivia sheets) filled with questions that correspond to numbered posts in the maze. Find the post, match the number, answer the question correctly and you’re on your way out! If you answer incorrectly, you’re still on your way but it may take you a few more twists and turns.

Spookley the Square Pumpkin!
In Phase 3 you can read the story of Spookley the Square Pumpkin as he tells his story. Spookley is a unique, fictional square pumpkin that delivers a special message of tolerance and kindness – a great story for kids of all ages!

Farm Scene Investigation! Help Farmer Joe is missing! In Phase 2 you can take a game sheet with you if you choose and play detective. Look for 6 checkpoints within the maze to find the clues; eliminate suspects and find the culprit!
